The Arsys project: bringing the Data Economy to the streets
As part of TrustChain, Arsys is developing a platform that will promote the creation of high-quality data sets in retail, encouraging the sector's participation in Data Spaces, as well as popularizing digital identity solutions among end consumers.
Through their own mobile devices, customers will be able to provide data about their customer experience and benefit from incentives for their next purchases. These incentives will be managed through a mobile application that works similarly to the European Digital Identity e-wallet solution, giving users full control over their personal data, respecting their security and privacy, and ensuring compliance with European regulations.
In an authenticated and anonymized manner, the information will be recorded on a platform of aggregated, structured, and accessible data. Retailers will be able to use this information to improve their level of service and commercial actions. Additionally, this data repository will be available for different Data Spaces, strengthening the global value chain of the Data Economy.
In this way, the use of Data Spaces will be democratized among small businesses. It will also allow many individual users to become familiar with e-wallet services, such as the one that will be used by the European Digital Identity service. This EU system is expected to be operational in 2026 and will unify many of the current identification systems and procedures of member countries.
The Data Economy and Retail
-
There are numerous European initiatives linked to the development of the Data Economy and the promotion of environments focused on governance, reliability, or data sovereignty. However, they do not usually specifically focus on the concrete needs of retail, which is mainly composed of small businesses or professionals.
Retail has a significant weight in the economic and social structure of the European Union, as it is estimated to represent approximately 5% of the total GDP of the region and employs more than 25 million people.
-
Although it is common for retail to have data on its daily activity, it does not usually analyze it to turn it into information and improve its results. It is also not common for retail to have specific data about its customers, as there are no incentives to share information or reliable solutions to do so.
Due to its characteristics and economic and social importance, the European Union has set the goal of creating specific tools that allow retail and other actors, including citizens themselves, to participate in all the advantages of the Data Economy.
An Internet with values
Under the name Next Generation Internet, the European Commission is launching various innovation initiatives to develop an Internet that, in the future, better reflects the universal human values established by the United Nations, with which the European Union identifies.
One of these initiatives is TrustChain. Through calls for proposals open to entities from all over Europe, TrustChain is coordinating various innovative projects that address challenges such as digital identity, privacy, transmission, commerce and data services, or energy efficiency, related to these values.
In this way, TrustChain will enable the development of new Internet protocols and decentralized and user-centered software solutions that promote a new model of Internet governance in line with European values and regulatory framework.
